How to AirDrop from iOS to Mac

AirDrop can be used for sending files and pictures from one Apple device (Mac,iPhone, and iPad) to another. It is a quick and easy way to transfer files between devices. This file-sharing feature is easy to use. If you want to know how to transfer files between an iOS and Mac device, then read on.
Prerequisites
To use AirDrop, there are some requirements you need to take into consideration.
  • Mac needs to be 2012 or newer.

Steps for checking if Mac is compatible with AirDrop
  1. Go to your Dock.
  2. Open Finder.
  3. Move to the Menu Bar.
  4. Click on Go.
  5. In case the option of AirDrop appears in the list, it means that your device supports AirDrop.

To begin with, you have to enable this feature on iPhone and Mac.

  1. Unlock your iPhone.
  2. Swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen.
  3. Check that the Bluetooth is turned on.
  4. Check that the Wi-Fi is turned on.

For activating the feature on Mac, simply enable the Wi-Fi. The feature will get activated automatically.

  1. Go to the Dock.
  2. Click on Finder.
  3. Select the Go option.
  4. Click on AirDrop.
  5. When prompted, turn on WiFi and Bluetooth.
  6. Click on Allow, if prompted.

Here is how you can share files:
  1. Unlock the iOS device.
  2. Locate the file you wish to share.
  3. Tap on the sharing button.
  4. Now, allow your iOS device to discover other devices.
  5. Select your Mac.
  6. When prompted for confirmation, click on the Accept button on your Mac.
  7. Allow the file to get transferred.
How to access shared files?
  1. When the transfer is over, you will get a prompt on the upper right-hand edge.
  2. Click on the Open button.
  3. Or else, move to the Dock and click on Finder.
  4. Select Downloads and find the file.

While AirDrop is a smooth and quick way to share files and contacts, at times, it may not work. In this case, follow the guidelines given below:
Check the WiFi and Bluetooth
Both of them need to be turned on for using AirDrop. Check that they are enabled on both the devices.
Tweaking AirDrop Settings
  1. Go to Dock.
  2. Click on Finder.
  3. Open AirDrop.
  4. Go to Allow me to be discovered.
  5. From the list of options, select Everyone.
Place the devices closer
Well, you can use AirDrop only when the other device is near you. Both the devices should not be distanced by more than nine meters of each other.
Disable the Airplane mode
AirDrop does not work when the Airplane mode is active. So, check if your iOS device is in the Airplane mode. In case it is, then turn it off.
Hard Reset
If nothing works, then you need to perform a hard reset. Just long-press the On/Off button with the Volume down key, and allow the device to reset.
You can restart your Mac by clicking on the Apple icon and selecting the Restart option.
