How to Fix Wii Remotes Not Syncing Issue

Nintendo is among the most well-recognized names around the world when it comes to gaming consoles in general. The Japanese giant was founded way-way back in 1889 and had been providing world-class gaming experience to players all over the globe ever since the 1970s. With several iconic names like Pokémon, Mario, and The Legend of Zelda under its belt, the multinational behemoth is still going strong.
Wii is a home gaming console by Nintendo and has been around ever since its release in November 2006. Wii packs decent games, a durable built, and a family-friendly approach, due to which the relatively old console is still functioning well. Even with so many functions and Nintendo backing it up, you can encounter issues with it.
One of the most common and frustrating issues you can encounter is the Wii remote, not functioning. As the console heavily relies on the remotes, losing their functionality could result in a compromised gaming experience. Luckily, there are some quick workarounds to fix the issue.
Wii utilizes infrared controllers for the games, and they come with a convenient wrist strap. This has saved games from several accidents and TV sets in their lifetime. The controllers are sturdily built and offer optimized performance; however, they can get out of sync at times. In case you are encountering any such problem, then follow the mentioned steps and get through it.
5 Tips to fix Wii Won’t Sync Issues
You can opt to apply the mentioned steps if your Wii remote has stopped functioning. Here are some handy tips:
  1. Wii Reboot
Rebooting is probably the most used and surprisingly effective workaround for any technical issue. It may be a PC, mobile device, or any consumer product, rebooting them could fix most general issues. Turn off your Wii via the mains and leave it like that for 30 seconds. If the remote syncs, then congrats, otherwise you need to proceed with the tips.
  • Remote Re-Sync
Wii remotes are wireless, so Nintendo builds them in a way that they would re-sync in case they lose connections. The process to re-establish the network is straightforward and it takes less than a few minutes. So here is how you can do it:
  • First, you need to reboot your Wii.
  • Reach the Health and Safety warning.
  • Open the SD card slot from the face of Wii.
  • Tap and hold down the red Sync key for 15 seconds.
  • To ensure a better connection, the battery cover of the Wii remote should be removed.
  • Tap the red Sync key on the remote.
  • Again tap the Sync key on the console.
  • Wait until the two pair up.
  • Repeat the third and fourth steps for other remotes as well.
Note: After syncing one of the remotes, you need to quickly move on to the next one as the Sync window may run out of processing time. You can see on the LED of the remote to keep up with the pairing process.
  • Batteries
The Wii remotes make use of cells to function. So in case you cannot see any lights or are unable to pair them, then replace the batteries. You will need two AA batteries for every remote. The batteries for your remotes should last up to 25 hours if used as pointers and 60 hours with regular use.
  • Remote Replacement or Repair
If the above steps do not work, then you may need to replace the remote as well. The remotes have a limited lifetime, no matter how delicately they are used. Buy a new one or try borrowing one from your friends first to ensure that it is the remotes that are at fault. Sync them using the steps mentioned above.
  • Wii Replacement or Repair
In case more than one remote is not syncing with Wii, then there is a chance that Wii may be at fault. Try syncing the remotes with any other Wii, and if they work, then you know what to do. You can get your Wii repaired at Nintendo repair centers or get a new Wii online.
