How to Fix OneNote Sync Error

There can be plenty of causes behind OneNote notebooks that stop sync. There are high chances of net connectivity issues and gets late while using the same notebook from different gadgets.
Remember! This blog is applicable for OneNote users of Windows 10, OneNote for Office 365, as well as OneNote 2019.
Use the most recent version of OneNote for MS accounts
  1. Firstly, exit from every application.
  2. Then, visit the Start menu.
  3. After that, choose the Microsoft Store.
  4. Next, log into your account.
  5. Then, choose the See more symbol.
  6. After that, select the Downloads and updates.
  7. Next, choose Get updates.
  8. Lastly, you need to close the MS Store.
Use the newest version of OneNote for MS Office accounts
  1. Firstly, launch any of the Office applications like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
  2. Then, choose Account.
  3. After that, choose Update Options.
  4. Next, tap on Update Now.
  5. Whenever the ‘Save your work before continuing’ the dialog box gets displayed, you need to save any launch file.
  6. Then, choose Continue.
  7. Next, give some time for Office updates.
  8. Lastly, go to the ‘Updates were installed’ dialog box and choose Close.
Log in to the correct OneNote account
  1. Firstly, launch the OneNote desktop application.
  2. Then, visit the Settings and More menu.
  3. After that, choose Settings.
  4. Next, choose Accounts.
  5. Note that the MS account that you use for logging in to OneNote gets displayed in the account list.
  6. Lastly, choose the Close option.
Set OneNote for automatically syncing notes
  1. Firstly, launch the OneNote desktop application.
  2. Then, visit the Settings and More menu.
  3. After that, choose Settings.
  4. Next, choose Options.
  5. Then, enable the ‘Sync notebooks automatically’ toggle by pushing it.
  6. After that, enable the ‘Sync all files and images’ toggle by pushing it.
  7. Lastly, you need to close the Options pane.
Fix the sync issues whenever a Notebook doesn’t sync
  1. Firstly, go to the OneNote desktop application.
  2. Then, you need to do a right-click on the notebook.
  3. After that, choose Copy Link to Notebook.
  4. Next, go to the web browser.
  5. Then, visit the Address bar.
  6. After that, do the pasting of the link to the notebook.
  7. Next, tap on Enter.
  8. If asked, log in to the MS, work, or school account.
  9. Go to the OneNote desktop application and do a right-click on the notebook.
  10. Then, choose ‘Close This Notebook.’
  11. On the OneNote Online, you need to choose Edit Notebook and, then tap on Edit in Microsoft OneNote.
  12. Lastly, wait for a while and see if the syncing issue is fixed or not.
